NEW POST!! Have Disk, Will RAID!
A series of notes and procedures I collected over the years, and intend to gather, as I perform magic and miracles doing the myriad awesome and not so awesome jobs I undertook, or found myself tasked with.
Some of this is now so ingrained, I couldn't even tell you there was a glitch - I just in my stride do what I do to get the results I produce - Windows keyboard gets weird character strokes - that's the shift and alt keys on the left and right getting in an argument what state they are in. Slowly and deliberately press each shift, alt and cmd key. Once. ALL of them. Individually. Not together. After that is done, keyboard is right as rain. This procedure is now almost in my fingers - my brain barely registers keyboard is funky, and it's already working again.
And some of this is stuff I do rarely, and in the past, I've experienced the sense of de-ja-vu - having to figure it out again as I feel my way through the old/new problem. I didn't write it up last time, as, well, it will never happen again. Today the battery in my MacBook Pro Retina goes completely to 0% and in the moment that it decides to shut down, I jam in the power with the MagSafe connector. I mean, the very instant, hoping to beat the shutdown. Missed. Oh well, just wait a tick and press power. But now, the poor lil thing is sitting there, pathetically spooling up one fan, and petering out, then trying again. More details in the the lab-notes.
But you get the idea. Esoteric bits of arcane knowledge, from the school of knocks and bruises.
That peculiar interface and boundary between real world matters and matters of code.
Random perhaps non-technical but cool and fun things to really make life and business simpler.
